ince 2020 when Joe Biden had won the presidential election he had been quite judged by those who have voted against him, calling him unfit for the presidential role. Due to some of the changes he has implemented since becoming president, he gathered more hatred around him. People are very quick to judge nowadays, they don’t take a second to look up a person’s past, which is what builds a person.

Biden has been especially judged for his lack of humility, but that is actually a quality he harnesses very well due to his past. Most politicians who run for president and manage to win happen to have been born in a circle that made it easy for them, but not Biden. He had to work his way from the bottom to reach this statute. Some criticized him because he is too old to run for President, but in this case, and taking into consideration his past, there isn’t anyone more fit.

There was a period of time when Biden was challenged by life in a way no one wishes life to challenge them. Overcoming that point in his life shows a powerful character, but what actually happened?

Life’s challenges

Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. was born on November 20, 1942, in the blue-collar city of Scranton, Pennsylvania. He came from a humble family that was doing ok. When Biden was only 10 years old, his family had to move to Wilmington, Delaware area as his father found a new job as a car salesman. Biden was the first of four siblings which put a lot of pressure on him to be a good role model. In school, he would be a mediocre student that actually had difficulties speaking as he would stutter.

His life had a major change in the 1960s when he had met Neilia Hunter, who he married in 1966 and with whom he would have three children. During this time Biden had graduated from the University of Delaware with a double major in history and political science, and three years later he earned a law degree from Syracuse University. He returned to Wilmington to work as an attorney for a couple of years.

In 1970 he won his first-ever election to the New Castle County Council, making him the fifth-youngest senator in American history. In December of the same year, he had faced a great tragedy in his life, just before being sworn as a senator. His wife was taking their 13-month-year-old daughter and his two older sons back from school in a station wagon she was driving. Out of nowhere, a tractor-trailer plowed into the station wagon, killing his wife and baby child. His two sons were lucky and got away with severe injuries.

All of this occurred whilst Biden was at the time, at the highest peak in his life. It is usually within those moments when life is perfect that something like this occurs. The president chooses to not talk about that past as it most probably had been a period of time that brought him in a severe depression. This could be one of the reasons why he does not talk about it. Many people do not know this about his past, despite this occurring, he kept a professional stance as a young senate and never showed how this tragedy truly affected him emotionally.

Biden remarried in 1977 to schoolteacher Jill Jacobs, with whom he would have one more daughter. You can look at someone’s smile but you will never be able to tell what tragedies that person has lived. Despite this past, In 1988 Biden started to run for president. It had been 34 years since he had started and in the end, his dream had come true.

His decisions as a president may be argued, but his character and personality should be left alone or at least given a second thought before being judged. We all have some sort of past from which we face challenges that make us grow.
