aba Vanga, famously known as Vanghelia Pandeva Dimitrova, was born on January 31, 1911, and died on August 11, 1996, at the age of 85. After marriage, she took the name Vanghelia Gusterova and lived most of her life in the Rupite area in the Kozhuh Mountains, Bulgaria. Vanghelia was a blind herbal healer who many people thought possessed paranormal abilities. She only found out about these abilities later in life with 85% of her predictions proving true. Therefore she was nicknamed Baba Vanga, baba meaning old lady, and Vanga being short for Vanghelia.
Baba Vanga was a premature baby who had many health problems throughout her life. Her father fought in the Bulgarian army in World War I, and her mother died when she was still young. Vanga was an intelligent child, with blue eyes, blond hair as a child, she used to spend a lot of time with the healer from her village. A turning point in her life was when she was caught in the field by a storm and had been blind ever since.
Later, in 1925, Vanga was sent to a school for the blind in the city of Zemun (Serbia), where she spent the next three years. Here she learned to read the Braille alphabet, play the piano, and much more. In 1939, Vanga had pleurisy, although she had been quite healthy in previous years. The doctor’s opinion was that she would die soon, but she recovered quickly.
Predicting the future
Vanga was illiterate, she did not write any books and her speech was difficult to understand as she spoke a difficult dialect. Baba Vanga said that her paranormal powers came from invisible creatures, but she could not fully explain them.
Adherents say that she predicted the beginning of the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Chornobyl disaster, the electoral victory of Boris Yeltsin, the date of Stalin’s death, the sinking of the Russian submarine Kursk, the 9/11 attacks in the United States, and the victory of Veselin Topalov in the world chess tournament. There are enough voices that contradict these predictions who think that these statements are only justified by the media in order to get attention.
