here are many dangerous places on Earth today which we consider danger zones, but it wasn’t always like that, just as the most peaceful parts of our planet, today didn’t use to be peaceful at all. A study carried out by researchers from the Univesity of Detroit Mercy in accordance with the University of Portsmouth had the aim of discovering what was the most dangerous location on Earth in our history.

Experts have teamed up with archeologists in order to analyze not only historical data from ancient times but also fossils of feared predators that have lived in specific zones within certain continents. All the researchers were very attracted by fossils from the Kem Kem group. This group is made up of two distinctive geological formations, one being the older Douira Formation and the younger Gara Sbaa Formation. These groups have been found in the Kem Kem region of eastern Morocco, also part of the Sahara Desert.

These two groups present very unique fossils of dinosaurs that date back 100 million years (Late Cretaceous period). What is very interesting from the analyses done on these fossils is that it turns out that most of them were predatory theropod dinosaurs. It is very rare to see different predatory dinosaurs in the same habitat as they prefer to be secluded in a habitat with an abundance of smaller creatures to prey on, but in this location, the main prey were other predators of the same size, or even bigger.

This can also be seen within the impressive collection of claws found by archeologists in this curious location. Such claws indicate that most of the dinosaurs/lizards within the area were predatory beasts. Researchers from the institutions mentioned above have wondered how did so many predatory species survive in such a harsh location, where water is close to scarce. From the research performed by geologists, it is assumed that 100 million years ago, the location housed vast river systems that allowed the predators to nourish themselves.

However, even the water sources were not safe, as it is assumed that even the rivers were full of predatory crocodyliforms (the ancestor of today’s crocodile) which would be five times bigger than the actual size of a crocodile todayWhat the experts consider to be the most dangerous predator is the Carcharodontosaurus saharicus theropod dinosaur due to their massive length of almost 14 meters and possible mass of 15,000 kilograms (33,069 pounds).

Another very dangerous predatory species was the Pterosaur which in the simplest terms is described as a large flying crocodile that would also have the ability to swim underwater for prey. It would be near impossible to hide from this predator.

Just imagine being stranded with the smallest creature around you being twice your size and 90% of the creatures being predators in a place that is mainly desert. From this perspective, the experts pretty much concluded that the Kem Kem region can be considered as the most lethal place in history.
