After all, moviemakers are known to change the plot of even real-life events to make them captivating. Ancient Egypt is a fascinating period with a lot of literature, art, and films depicting it.

However, not all movies on ancient Egypt history are completely true. Still, that doesn’t mean that all of them are made up. Some moviemakers have gone to great lengths to ensure that they depict events as they took place. Let’s find out about some such historically accurate movies about ancient Egypt below.

1.  Cleopatra (1963)

This is an American epic drama film based on the 1957 book The Life and Times of Cleopatra. The film, starring Elizabeth Taylor, is based on real histories by Greek and Roman philosophers and historians. These include Plutarch, Suetonius Tranquillis and Appian of Alexandria.

This movie was a result of a lot of time and effort. It portrays the life of the Egyptian queen Cleopatra perfectly.

2.  Stargate (1994)

The filmmakers Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich took the help of an Egyptologist for this film. He made the actors learn how to speak in a manner similar to ancient Egyptians.

3.  The Mummy (1999)

The Mummy is a scary historical drama. Even though the main plot of this film cannot be trusted, we still include it in this list of movies on Ancient Egypt history. This is because the movie portrays various other things about Ancient Egyptian history correctly.

4.  Faraon (1966)

Faraon or Pharaoh is an old film that depicts the pharaoh quite realistically. The movie shows a power struggle that takes place between the temple priest and Rameses XIII. He would be assuming the throne of the poverty-ridden Egypt.

Faraon does not have the grand spectacle of standard Hollywood films. Still, the movie gives an accurate depiction of life in Ancient Egypt. There is much political intrigue and incredible battle scenes, quite accurately portraying the world inhabited by ancient Egyptians.

5.  The Loves of Pharaoh (1922)

When Samlak and his daughter Makeda go to Amenes, Ramphis, the son of Sothis, finds Makeda’s Greek slave. Sothis was Amene’s master builder.

The rest of the story is all about battle. The movie portrays the scenes of battle preparation and the battle accurately. The complete version of this film was lost for quite many years. Its digitally reconstructed version aired on 17 September 2011. The costumes of the characters also co-relate with the details historians have received from ancient records.
